Geochemistry studies the chemical composition of the Earth's interior, the prevalence of chemical elements in it and the stability of their isotopes, the patterns of distribution of chemical elements in various geospheres, the laws of behavior, combination and migration (concentration and scattering) of elements in natural processes. Exploration of mineral deposits for compiling geological maps is carried out by specialists in applied geochemistry: geochemists-prospectors, mineralogists, petrographs and crystallographers. Exploration geochemists conduct a geochemical survey, compiling geochemical maps of the area based on a geochemical study of the territory according to a specific system. A geochemist-minerologist used to select rock samples. After collecting samples, geochemists in the

laboratory make a qualitative and quantitative analysis of the material. Analysis data on the qualitative composition of the rocks, on the concentration of certain chemical elements in this area may indicate the presence of a mineral deposit. The geochemist-minerologist must describe the conditions for the formation, occurrence and change of minerals in nature, also using a geological hammer.

This specialist in the "field" takes samples of minerals characteristic of the area, carries out the primary classification "by eye", focusing on the reference guide-determinant of minerals: the color of the inclusions, the shape of the inclusions and fracture of the rock, etc., compiles tables for the presence of certain minerals on this site.

A petrograph geochemist continues and deepens the classification of rocks, examining their mineralogical and chemical composition, structure, conditions of occurrence and distribution in the studied geological region, and also conducts lithographic surveys examining sedimentary rocks. As a result of such complex work, lithographic maps and atlases are compiled, allowing you to visually show the patterns of spatial distribution of sedimentary rocks.

A geochemist crystallographer analyzes the crystalline structure of rocks in the laboratory. In their research, geochemistry engineers use the latest achievements of geological, physical, chemical sciences, computer and information technologies, data from underwater and space research.

Professionally important employee qualities

Strong physical health and endurance, high level of concentration and switching attention, ability to focus on one subject for a long time, at the same time, quickly move from one type of activity to another, psycho-emotional stability, good vision and an eye (linear and voluminous), developed visually -shaped memory.
Purposefulness, resourcefulness, perseverance, responsibility, high efficiency, diligence, ability to draw well.
Developed analytical thinking, technical thinking, developed spatial imagination.
The geochemistry engineer must have deep knowledge and well-formed skills in geochemical methods of searches, knowledge in the field of regional geochemistry, geochemistry of elements and their isotopes. He must methods of experimental and theoretical modeling of natural processes, methods instrumental analysis of the chemical composition of natural objects; own methods for determining the absolute age of minerals and rocks. He needs general engineering knowledge in physics, chemistry, geography, special knowledge of geology. He must know the safety rules and emergency procedures. A modern specialist geochemist must own applied computer programs.
The work of a geochemistry engineer, depending on the direction of work, is carried out “in the field”, in the office, in geological laboratories for mineralogy, petrography or crystallography, the work is associated with lengthy business trips for surveying.
Propensity to colds, diseases of the organs of the musculoskeletal system, serious cardiovascular diseases, joint diseases, diseases associated with loss of consciousness.
To obtain the profession of geochemistry engineer, a person needs to study at a university in the speciality 5B070600 - Geology and exploration of mineral deposits

List of specialties:
5В070600 - Геология и разведка месторождений полезных ископаемых

Major subjects on the UNT -math and physics.

Occupied segment of the labor market

Standardization technician, standardization engineer, head of the standardization department.
The specific of the profession does not provide opportunities for self-employment, as a team of specialists is needed, special equipment is needed, and sufficient funding for survey work is needed.
The profession of geochemistry engineer is in demand in geological expeditions, research geological institutes, and their laboratories.
